On the establishment of the Atomic Energy Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan

Akorda.kz: President of the Republic of Kazakhstan K.Tokayev signed a decree “On measures to further improve the public administration system of the Republic of Kazakhstan”

The Atomic Energy Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan was established by decree on March 18, 2025. “In accordance with subparagraph 5) of Article 44 of the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan, in order to further develop the nuclear industry and strengthen nuclear safety, I DECREE:

  1. To establish the Atomic Energy Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan (hereinafter – the Agency) as a state body directly subordinate and accountable to the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, with the transfer to him of the functions and powers of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the areas of subsoil use in terms of uranium mining, the use of atomic energy, ensuring radiation safety of the population, the creation and operation of the Semipalatinsk Nuclear Safety Zone.
  2. To determine the Agency as the legal successor of the rights and obligations of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan within the limits of the transferred functions and powers.” - the Decree says.
